Although many non-surgical cosmetic procedures can reduce the visible signs of aging, there is still nothing that can match the results offered by a surgical facelift.

A facelift addresses both the surface and underlying facial structures to ensure that your complexion looks natural and youthful. Unlike non-surgical cosmetic procedures, a facelift offers long-lasting improvement.

What Can a Facelift Accomplish?

As you age, you are forced to deal with the loss of collagen and elastin—the proteins that give your skin and tissues their strength and structure. These proteins are abundant during your youth; however, their production starts to decrease the further into adulthood you get.

When you combine a lack of collagen and elastin production with other factors like sun damage, harsh environments, lifestyle choices, poor diets, and smoking, you may find that you left with a severely aged appearance.

This appearance can manifest in many different ways: facial skin can thin, cheeks may start to sag, jowls develop along the jawline, parenthesis lines grow deep between the nose and mouth, and vertical bands of skin collect around the neck.

A facelift addresses all of these aspects. By making incisions at the top of the hairline that run down and behind the ear, excess skin is removed, and underlying tissues are tightened to reveal a smoother, more youthful complexion across the face and neck.

Facelift surgery—especially a deep plane facelift—will diminish wrinkles, tighten skin, and reduce jowls while maintaining a natural appearance.

Are There Any Facelift Alternatives?

Soft tissue fillers, dermal and fat grafting are three of the most common minimally-invasive alternatives to facelift surgery. Both of these treatments address facial volume loss, one of the most substantial cause of an aged appearance.

By filling these depressed areas with an injectable like JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, dermis or fat from your own body, hollowed areas throughout the face are plumped and wrinkles are smoothed.

While these treatments contribute to a more youthful-looking complexion, they are unable to treat loose or sagging skin. This alone is why facelift surgery is still the gold standard for facial rejuvenation.

Can I Combine Procedures?

While the facelift offers the most comprehensive facial rejuvenation of any single cosmetic treatment, the results can be improved when procedures are combined. Fat or dermal grafting into the soft tissues can add additional volume to the cheeks, lips, or the areas beneath the eyes even after a facelift is completed.

Additional surgical procedures like blepharoplasty or brow lift surgery can help restore youthfulness to the upper region of the face.
